 Horse Fan

This is a two and one-half to three hour, hands-on non-riding class is designed to teach basic horsemanship.  This class meets all the requirement of the Girl Scout Horse Fan Badge.  This is a non-riding badge, but, if time permits, the girls will be allowed a short ride around the arena.

 

The badge requirements covered are:

            Activity #2 - Caring for horses
                * General care of a horse
                * How much and what kind of food horses eats

                * Acceptable treats

                * Every day care: cleaning stalls, watering, grooming)

            Activity #3 - Fashion and Function

                * Difference between English and Western clothes

                * Cost of a complete outfit

            Activity #4 - Horses Through History

                * Evolution of the horse

                * Principle parts of a horse

Feeding the horses
Western saddle explanation

            Activity #6 - Horse Careers

                * Different careers associated with horses

                * Training required for: Farrier, Riding instructor,
                   Veterinarian

            Activity #7 - Ease with Equipment

                * Difference between English and Western tack

                * Care of tack

                * How to saddle and bridle a horse

            Activity #8 - Horse "Tales"

                * Identify several famous or legendary horses

                * Importance of horses in our culture

           

This program is usually held on Saturdays at 2:00 pm, but we can sometimes accommodate troops during the week.

Cost$25.00 per participant.
