Horse Sense

This is a 4-week class that includes a riding lesson (about 40 minutes).  It  that explores all aspects of horsemanship, horse management and riding.  By completing these four classes, Scouts meet the requirements of the  Girl Scout Horse Sense IP.   Each session lasts about  2 hours.

Week 1: Tacking a horse

SB2-Safety rules
SB1-Learn to groom and lead a horse
Saddle/mount/walk/turn/dismount
T4-Track horse expenses

 

Week 2: SB6-Assess a horse
SB1-Tack a horse
Learn how to trot a horse
T4-Track horse expenses
Week 3:

T2-Identify the correct equipment for different riding styles
SB1-Ride the figure 8
Ride around cones
T4-Track horse expenses 

Circling a barrel

Week 4: SB1-Do some barrel racing at the trot
Hold a horse for the farrier
CE1-Horse careers
SP2-Find out about therapeutic riding
T4-Track

This program is usually held on Saturdays, but we can sometimes accommodate troops during the week.
