New for Cub Scouts

Belt loop and sport pin

Just introduced in December 2009!  We can help your Cub Scouts receive both the belt loop and the sports pin.

The boys are divided into small groups to optimize the time needed to perform the requirements for the belt loop and sports pin. 

Each boy will perform the following:

Belt Loop:

    Safety First

        * How to be safe when near a horse

        * How to behave around horses

        * How to give a treat to a horse

        * What to wear when riding

        * How to lead a horse

Riding a Horse

        * Learn how to mount and dismount

        * Learn how to make the horse go and stop

Ride time will be approximately 20 minutes and take place in our indoor arena.

Sports Pin:

   How Tall is My Horse?

        * Why horses are measured in "hands"

        * How horses are measured today

        * Find out the height and weight of a horse

Horse Grooming

        * Spend 15 minutes grooming a horse

        * What tools is used to groom a horse

        * How the tools are used

        * Learn how to groom a horse

        * Learn at least eight parts of a horse

       Horse Food

        * How much and what kind of food horses eats

        * Acceptable treats

  

   Helmets

        * Learn why riders should wear an approved helmet when horseback riding

        * Recognize the code that states the helmet is suitable for horseback riding

        * Learn the conditions under which a helmet must be replaced.

 

This program is usually held on Saturdays at 2:00 pm or 4:00 pm, but we can sometimes accommodate troops during the week.
